Burns votes AGAINST denying amnesty for killers of U.S. Troops

When you have watched Conrad Burns in action for a few years, after a while nothing surprises you. This being said, even I was shocked when someone recently brought the following info to my attention. Recently the government in Iraq floated the idea of granting amnesty to criminals as a type of reconciliation. Some of the more extremist elements in the government even proposed granting amnesty to those who participated in attacks on American troops and even killed our service members. It was against this backdrop that on June 20th, Senator Nelson from Florida proposed amendment 4265 to the Defense Authorization bill. This amendment, "would express the sense of the Congress that the Iraqi government should not grant amnesty to persons known to have attacked, killed or wounded members of the U.S. armed forces." The statement passed but 19 Republicans, including Burns, voted against this amendment. I haven't heard his explanation on this vote, but regardless of what he says, this vote is not only a slap in the face of this country's veterans but it dishonors the memory of those who gave their lives in Iraq. I am personally appalled that a person who voted against this amendment represents the state of Montana in the Senate.
