Props to Morrison and Tester

Regardless of what happens in this primary election, both Senate candidates deserve huge props for keeping this race above board.

While the Big Sky Dems stayed out of this contest, we tried to be equally helpful to both camps and I think we were. But what’s more, this race never dipped into the negativity and divisive politics we see in other state primaries. more

One could speculate that the higher purpose of beating Burns won the day. I’d suggest that it’s just the Montana Democratic way – we don’t fight dirty with our friends.

There’s no question the race got a little testy at times. Jabs during debates and in lit pieces and veiled references crept in from time to time. But on the whole, both camps kept this race out of the ditch.

Both Morrison and Tester ran solid campaigns with scores of dedicated volunteers. They raised issues and talked to voters about the Democratic priorities of providing health care, quality education, and good-paying jobs for Montana.

Most importantly, they kept the focus on where it needs to be: Conrad Burns’ corruption problems.

Once this primary battle is over, we call on Democrats from both camps to pull together and get behind the nominee. After all, this election is about Montana’s future and leaving a Democratic legacy for our kids and grandkids. After the primary, it’s time to wipe the slate clean and focus on burying Burns for good.
